A total of 855 police and paramilitary personnel were awarded police medals Friday, including 149 for courage in Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal violence-affected areas and others, ahead of the Republic Day.
The CRPF, the country’s extensive paramilitary force, was furnished with the highest 44 awards for courage followed by Odisha Police at 26 medals, Jammu and Kashmir Police 25 medals and Chhattisgarh 14 medals.
Other courage medal victors hail from Meghalaya (13), Uttar Pradesh (10), Border Security Force (8), Delhi (4), Jharkhand (3) and one each from the Assam Rifles and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
The national capital has been covered in an unprecedented security blanket, with around 25,000 security personnel keeping a hawk-eyed vigil to thwart any terror strike or untoward event during the 70th Republic Day celebrations.
Security has been beefed up in the wake of the arrest of two (2)suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) members, who were planning to carry out terror strikes in New Delhi during the Republic Day celebrations.
The two(2) suspected JEM members were natives of Jammu and Kashmir. One was arrested from Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area and the other from Bandipora, the Delhi Police declared on Thursday.
The traffic police have also deployed its employees to manage route diversions and guarantee safe and secure passage for the visiting dignitaries.
